meta: episode 209

Sorry about that, guys, I meant to have this up this afternoon. Interestingly, after this episode the majority of us seem to be on polar ends of the Mohinder/Elle/West fandoms, which made for some similarly different metas.

I hope you all enjoyed "Truth or Consequences" last night, and enjoy tonights meta of "Cautionary Tales"

(mod note: since I didn't know I'd be doing this until yesterday, I'd already done a meta, so I got someone else to choose which ones should go in)

The Bennets/Butlers and West

After this scene HRG has become the last action hero in my eyes. He's the new Chuck Norris.
vampedvixen

HRG and West fit in a little male bonding as they wait for the hostage exchange to take place.
somethingastrue

Okay, when Bennet wanted to know where West was, did anybody say, "Have you checked behind your curtains? Or under Claire's bed? Or in the corner behind the ficus?"
trollprincess

I'm really trying not to think that West has way more chemistry with Noah than he's ever had with Claire.
trollprincess

We open on the Bennets, packing.  All except for Claire who has totally gotten over that loving-her-dad phase and is now in the fuck-you-and-die phase of adolescence.  Of course, Claire is perhaps the only teenager in existence who wants to rebel by attending school.
molly_commas

The thing that really grates on me about Claire's complaints that HRG used to abduct people, experiment on them, inject them with a tracking agent, and then erase their memories that she already knew all that.  Unless he sent the Haitian to visit her recently, none of this ought to be news to her.  Apparently, however, it is news to Lyle, who has never apparently wondered why he had to move a few states over and adopt a false name.  I love teenage boys -- they're so self-involved.
molly_commas

But West saves the day:  "Mr. Butler, what are you doing?  I mean you abducted me when I was just a kid and god only knows what other unsavory things you've done, but you CANNOT KILL TEH PRETTIEZ!"
molly_commas

I like this development, because it is a very visceral reason for Bennet to have turned on the Company.  I always just thought he realized one day that he was working with Eric Roberts and couldn't help but run the other way.
molly_commas

West is totally a part of the family now that he's willing to engage in kidnapping and torture.
molly_commas

Has anyone else noticed that apparently the best solution to the Bennets familial problems is to shoot Noah?  I mean, all the mistrust and lying is completely forgotten whenever he gets shot.  It's like therapy but cheaper.
molly_commas

...Wuh-oh. HRG, take that flaming torch away from your bridges and step away with your hands up.
cazrolime

HRG, you're going to walk straight into--

--well. I was going to say a bullet, but a crazy flying man works too.
cazrolime

Sandra has this really weird kinda semi-blink thing. Of wonder. Because everything about Sandra is of wonder. She's a saint, for serious.
cazrolime

Ahaha, West and HRG are bonding over cars. Wonder if Sylar can join in when he arrives? ...Probably not, HRG would bust a cap for driving his daughter's stolen NISSAN ROGUE.
cazrolime

Poor Claire! She’s stuck with Lyle, Riley Finn, a brain-robbed-mom, and Mr. Muggles. Where IS the Haitain, anyhoodle? He can become the Patriarch of the Bennet family! *likes the idea of that spinoff-series VERY MUCH* They would always be leaving Lyle behind and Mr. Muggles would plot diabolical plans and the Haitian would be awesome.
aunt_zelda

Claire ran all the way home? Why did she need a car in the first place if her school is that close to her home?
canadian_turtle

HOLY.. LYLE WASN'T AT THE DINING ROOM TABLE. AGAIN. The OTP of Lyle/pizza MUST live on and I'm hoping Bennet catches that clue and duct tapes Lyle to the dining room table. We need more character development for Lyle. And perhaps a little Chuck Norris fact, Heroes style, will suffice as inspiration for this long-overdue progression: When the boogeyman Maury Parkman goes to sleep, he checks his closet for Lyle Bennet.

Mohinder

Right before HRG almost shoots him, Mohinder looks like he really has to blow his nose. I can't watch that scene without laughing and feeling the need to hand him a tissue.
vampedvixen

I figured out why Mohinder is so brainless this season: He's just destraught that his lover has been kidnapped by the company and shipped to Mexico. It's why he joined the company, to see if he could find out where they stashed Sylar and to follow any leads he could pick up there.
vampedvixen

Bennet hug! Love! Flight! Electricity! Guns! Suspense! MOHINDER!!!
somethingastrue

Man, Mohinder is just the ultimate dipshit, isn't it? I've almost come to cherish and adore the fact that in any given situation Mohinder will somehow manage to have the best intentions possible and yet outrageously fail. And perhaps in the middle just trip over the rug and faceplant into the floor ... you know, as a tension breaker.
trollprincess

Aww, Mohinder. I bet he's going "o hai, I'm in a car with a murderer... OH HANG ON, I've been in this situation before!"
cazrolime

Yup, even with sticky tape all over his nose Mohinder is still the prettiest guy on screen. Not that that's hard when he has a scene with just Bob, but you know what I mean.
canadian_turtle

No, Elle, you cannot keep Mohinder. He belongs to Sylar. Or maybe Matt. Depending on my current level of desire for angst/schmoop. Or, after that phone converstion, likely Noah. Wow, Mohinder really does slash with everyone. I still insist he has some sort of slash-related superpower. This power, apparently not located in his nose, so we know he's not Barbara Streisand in disguise. On the off chance that anyone was wondering.
krilymcc

So if you get Elle wet she can't use her powers. That makes sense. See, you don't need superpowers to pwn, some logic'll do just fine too. Mohinder could have learned so much from this man...
lin

I theorize that Mo's stupidness is actually catching. Mo is actually the virus. All of those people died because they were overcome with the urge to stick a fork in a light socket.

Kaito and Hiro

Woah! Kaito has super head stability! Even though Mama's slap rings out across the entire city, Kaito's head will not be moved!
somethingastrue

“We have the power of gods, that does not mean we can play God.” Kaito has such AMAZING lines. He’s like Gandalf and Xavier and Obi-Wan and Yoda all rolled into one.
aunt_zelda

So why doesn't wee!Hiro see that the guy with present!Hiro is an exact copy of his father? Does wee!Hiro also have a wee!brain?
canadian_turtle

PRESENT HIRO TOUCHED PAST HIRO!!! NO! NO, NO, NO!!!! He supposedly knows all this stuff about the time/space continum but he doesn't know if there are two versions of the same person in the same space then Pterodactyls will eat the world? You know I half expected Claude to run up to present Hiro, grab him and shout, "DON'T TOUCH THE BABY!" But no and now Pterodactyls are going to eat the world. Thanks a lot Heroes.
krilymcc

KAITO. TELL US YOUR POWER. TELL US YOUR POWER. TELL US YOUR POWER. I was observing and trying to figure out if there was the slightest bit of a CLUE or ANYTHING and now I am more convinced than ever that Kaito provides the Japanese subtitles using ONLY HIS MIND.

Bob and Elle

Elle has some serious boundary issues. She does not understand the concept of personal space. Then again, if I were around the boys from Heroes I might not be able to stop myself from molesting them either.
vampedvixen

Hmm. Elle wears heels at the beach. Interesting fashion choice. I want to see her stand up and get stuck in the sand.
somethingastrue

THE COMPANY PICNIC. I AM ASKING FOR THIS WITH UTMOST SINCERITY HERE. I just.. HAHAHAA. I can just imagine it now. Bob would be the father who's bringing his kids along with him even though he's really annoyed and cross because he has to organize everything and he's carrying in the karaoke machine and setting it up while Mohinder constantly complains that he doesn't really want to be there because Noah Bennet throws a far better Sexy Party than Bob does, then he starts to sob about how he's not really sure if he really had a good time at Noah's party because there may or may not have been spiked punch there but he's not sure if that's good or bad to begin with. And Elle's there, charring up some burgers and hot dogs and Bob reprimands her for playing with the grill then she's like "but I'm not!" and she displays her powers for all to see and everyone laughs simultaneously and aww. Such a family moment. How heartwarming.

Matt

Matt use your power to persuade your boss you need to do this case!! Come on! ROFLMAO He's totally doing it, obviously because I told him to.
canadian_turtle

If he really wanted to test that new side to his ability, Matt should have asked Molly to put her cereal on her head, or something. That would have been *much* more conclusive.
lin

Matt Parkman, was that a display of Jedi mindtrickery I hath seen? I do believe it was! Beginner stuff though. I bet the Jedi would call him Obi-Wan Kenewbie behind his back and laugh at him at their meetings, then get all awkwardly silent whenever he showed up.

Random

PREVIOUSLY ON HEROES: One bad guy deaded Kaito! Another one was Matt's asshole father! Here's Adam Kensei, who's a bad guy but still more awesome than a thousand squirrels doing gymnastics! Mohinder the Not Quite Moral Compass is going to go and terminally end his affair with Bennet! Bob has just enough wispy hair on top of his head to look quite silly! West doesn't want Claire's popsicles any more! When HRG is tired of California he is tired of life!
cazrolime

Next Week: Claire might team up with Elle while Sandra is in the background; Peter’s ‘pretty keen on that pendin’ apocalypse’ to quote our favorite Invisible Man; Hiro holds a katana to Peer’s throat, probably having found out about the Padam fandom … I mean … Peter’s partnership with Adam … I mean … ah screw it …
aunt_zelda

Look, the woods of PastJapan … I mean, South California … odd HOW MUCH ALIKE THEY APPEAR!
aunt_zelda

Lestat aka mister Muggles. Cute little fluffy by day, crime fighting vampire by night.
canadian_turtle

Just how many people are going to get tied up/held down/handcuffed. Are they taking requests? Mohinder, in a chair, with silk scarves? Nathan, in his car, with his belt? Peter, in a shipping container, with handcuffs. Wait, we did that one...
